Captured time plus disbursements is work in progress, and a fee note is raised from the entries themselves — so what is billed reconciles to what was recorded, per matter, without anyone retyping it.

Fee notes and credit notes
Fee notes with their tax components computed on the note, credit notes that cannot exceed the balance they credit, and both posted to the double-entry ledger as they are issued.

A bill of costs is not an invoice — it is taxed rather than paid — and it is assembled from the same time, attendances and disbursements the fee note draws on, on the scale of fees your bar publishes.

Retainers that bill themselves
A recurring arrangement raises its fee note on schedule against the matter it belongs to, so a monthly retainer stops depending on somebody remembering it on the first.

Every amount carries its own currency
A matter billed in dollars and a matter billed in shillings are two sets of figures, never one added together. There is no firm-wide currency that silently converts the others.
What you should know.
There are no payment integrations. A receipt is recorded as it arrives — cash, cheque, transfer or mobile money, with its reference — and reconciled against the money account it landed in. Nothing collects, and nothing polls a payment provider.
Tax components are configured by your firm to its own rates, computed on the note and posted to the ledger, ready for your own return. Nothing is filed for you.
